My website will be redesigned entirely, how do I keep my current good ranking?
A redesign can always highly impact the visibility of a website that is already visible in search engines.
Major changes do concern the URLs. Ideally, you should keep as much as exact same URLs as possible.
If it is not possible, then enjoy it to optimize them (short, containing keywords, absence of extension stopwords, use of hyphens…) and above all since it is online, implement 301 permanent redirect.
A redirection will apply when an old URL is called. The Internet user as well as search engines will be redirected to the new URL. Keep this redirection as long as possible, ideally, forever.
As for your most important backlinks, feel free to contact the owners of the websites sending out these links in order to ask them to update the URLs.
Track the 404 errors to very quickly spot the potential omissions.
You should also keep the same TITLE tags.
Finally, don't forget to update your XML sitemap.
Even if you do all these things, it is very possible that you suffer from a short-term decrease.
